Sao Paulo: the police dispersed a demonstration with tear gas


Anti-World Cup demonstrations and arrest are far from being over. 

The Brazilian police fired tear gas bombs and rubber bullets Tuesday night into Wednesday to disperse 300 demonstrators in the center of Sao Paulo who were asking for the release of other demonstrators arrested during the anti-World Cup gatherings .

According to local media, at least six people have been arrested during the demonstration, but at least two of them were subsequently released.

Brazil has been shaken a year ago, in full confederations Cup, by a slingshot historical social against the 11 billion of public funds wasted on the organization of the 2014 World Cup, at the expense of the improvement of public services.

Since that, the demonstrations have lost in intensity but have been radicalized around, particularly under the action of the anarchists of the group Black Block.

Since the kick off of the World Cup, on June the 12th , the rallies were held in most of the cities or were argueing of matches, but have gathered that 200 people on average in this country of 200 million inhabitants.

According to the local observers, the passion of football, the repression of the markets of the 12 June in Sao Paulo and Rio as well as the radicalization of the movement have diverted many Brazilians of the contestation.
