Manchester United's Van Gaal would have chosen Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels to reinforce his defensive line , especially after Rio Ferdinand departure to Queens Park Rangers , and Nemanja Vidić to Inter Milan.

According to the Daily Miror , Manchester United would have to pay 25 Million Euros to sign the player , a transfer that could be facilitated by Liverpool !! the historical rival of the Red Devils , to replace the 2014 World Champion ,Dortmund would have in effect initiated discussions with the Reds to loan their 21 years old Portuguese defender Tiago Ilori.

Hummels joined Bayern Munich's youth team in 1995 , but failed to impose himself in the first team , as he was promoted in 2006 and played only 2 games , before being approached by Borussia Dortmund , where he joined them in 2008 , played 229 games , scored 20 goals and won the German League in 2010–11, 2011–12 , the DFB-Pokal (German Cup) in 2011–12 and a DFL-Supercup (German Supercup ) in 2013 , as well as having reached the Champions League final in 2013 , where they lost to Bayern Munich.

At the National level , the German International defender won the 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Championship , as well as the 2014 Brazilian World Cup , Individually , Mats was chosen in the ESM Team of the Year twice (2010–11, 2011–12) , and once at the FIFA World Cup All-Star Team in 2014.
